Movie Review: Godzilla (2014)

I know it is a little bit late to watch Godzilla but I will still be posting a review.

  1. 6.6/10·IMDb

My Rating: 3.5 stars

At the beginning of the movie, I thought that the lead here is the Muto but then throughout the movie, I began to understand that this is indeed about Godzilla and how he defeated the Mutos to restore balance in this world.

I like how the Japanese always put sense with what's happening and will opt for the balance and what is for the benefit of everyone. That is a common trait for them and it is definitely noble.

I vaguely recall the first Godzilla movie that I watched but I can remember the feel-good feeling after watching it and the lead characters are very engaging. With this 2014 movie, I find Ford engaging. I cant relate to his wife though. They are both young and good looking so that is a plus point and their kid is adorable.

You will see that there is indeed that primal need for animals to conquer and become the sole survivor. Godzilla made sure that he is the alpha here. That he is the greatest and would do everything to keep that.

For this kind of movie, I was actually looking for more drama and hair-raising moments. It doesn't have to be grand or over the top but more of the human connection moments where you would feel you are part of the movie and that you can relate to them. Kudos to Ford's Mom & Dad here, losing someone is that everyone can relate to, the agony, questions and the search for the truth. Not everyone will have the chance to know the answer. Thankfully, his Das was able to get it.

Overall, this is still a must-watch movie!

How about you? What are your thoughts?
